Get to know some of the remarkable individuals helping to shape Kinley into a place that’s not only beautifully designed but deeply rooted in connection, belonging and pride.
Meet Sarah
Kinley local Sarah is the creative force behind Photography by Sarah Joy, where she captures the precious, fleeting moments of early family life through timeless newborn and family photography.
With over a decade of experience, Sarah has built a reputation for creating natural, heartfelt portraits that families cherish for years. As a proud Kinley resident, she’s found the perfect setting for both life and work, offering sessions just steps from home, whether it’s a peaceful shoot in the wetlands or a cosy indoor setup.
Living in Kinley has allowed Sarah to stay close to the community she loves while doing what she’s passionate about.
“It’s really great that there’s so many young families in the neighbourhood,” said Sarah.
“We can take a walk down to the wetlands and have some beautiful scenery and capture some really casual, natural moments with the families.”
Meet Stephen
Stephen is not only a passionate cricketer, but also the President of Lilydale Cricket Club, a local sporting institution with a rich history dating back more than 150 years.
The club is a cornerstone of the local community, bringing together players young and old, experienced and brand new. With five senior teams and a thriving junior program for both boys and girls, it’s a place where everyone is welcome, and where the love of the game is passed down through generations.
Kinley has proudly supported Lilydale Cricket Club as a major sponsor for the past three years, helping provide equipment, uniforms, and opportunities for players of all ages to thrive.
“We’re not-for-profit as a club, so to get a sponsorship like Kinley on board is just second to none for us,” said Steve.
Meet Brian
Brian has called Lilydale home since 2016 and has no plans of leaving any time soon. A passionate advocate for men’s mental health, he’s deeply committed to creating safe, supportive spaces for connection within the local community.
After noticing a number of older men experiencing loneliness, Brian began hosting monthly movie nights in the Lilydale Cricket Club rooms, a simple but powerful way to bring people together. From there, he helped establish OM:NI (Older Men: New Ideas), a discussion group that encourages open conversations and lasting friendships.
As a Beyond Blue volunteer, Brian continues to champion mental health awareness and connection, both within Kinley and the wider Lilydale community.
“That community orientation and looking after one another is fundamental to this part of outer east Melbourne,” said Brian.
Individual stories and the people behind them are what make communities thrive, through fostering diversity, connection and opportunity.
