Located at the gateway to the renowned Yarra Valley and just moments from the vibrant township of Lilydale, Kinley offers a prestigious living address in Melbourne’s east. With a harmonious blend of natural beauty, rich heritage, and thoughtful design, the community promises an exceptional lifestyle for its residents.
Kinley’s master plan is deeply rooted in the region’s character, showcasing stunning architecture and design while creating a community that thrives on connection.
Central to this vision is the integration of a series of public art installations, inspired by the area’s history and natural surroundings. These pieces will celebrate Kinley’s unique identity while fostering a sense of belonging.
“Public art is an integral part of the overall design and master plan of Kinley, so the idea is to recognise that sense of place, the history and in some cases the future vision through physical art,” said David Payes, Executive Chairman and Founder of Intrapac Property.
The first commissioned piece, Rising Sun by acclaimed sculptor David Ball, exemplifies this vision. Just as the sun rises in the east, heralding a new day of endless possibilities, the circular form of Rising Sun symbolises Kinley’s promise of a vibrant, rewarding lifestyle. This bespoke sculpture anchors Kinley as a community where heritage, innovation, and design unite to create something extraordinary.

“The rising sun symbolises warmth and hope for good living into the future and can be embraced by a community or people passing by. It’s symbolic of a good life to come,” said David of the inspiration behind the sculpture.
Rising Sun is a striking geometric piece crafted from ochre-toned Corten steel, one of David’s most favoured natural materials. Designed to resonate with Kinley’s natural surroundings, the sculpture ascends into the bright blue sky, evoking a sense of warmth and optimism.
“Most of my sculptures have a universal quality that they tend to sit sweetly and lightly in the landscape no matter where they are. Rising Sun is no exception, and I felt like it suited Kinley’s needs perfectly,” he said.
David describes his process as one that draws inspiration from forms in nature, distilled and reimagined to harmonise with their environment.

“Steel comes from the earth and slowly returns to it,” he explains, “and its warm tones blend seamlessly into the landscape.”
The sculpture takes root in the ancient lands of the Wurundjeri people, honouring their enduring cultural heritage and deep spiritual connection to Country. Its striking form also frames the majestic Yarra Ranges in the distance, creating a tangible connection between residents and the natural beauty of the region.
As Kinley grows, the rich stories of the Wurundjeri people will remain central to its identity, woven into the fabric of the community through sensitive and compelling visual artworks. Complementary pieces will reflect the colonial heritage of landmarks including Cave Hill Farm and Quarry, ensuring a thoughtful balance between ancient and modern narratives.
