KEYSBOROUGH: – Somerfield’s Social Club will be celebrating Chinese New Year with a big bang this year, by putting on a spectacular show for residents on Sunday 15 February 2015.

With around 19 per cent* of residents coming from a Chinese background, the community event aims to celebrate Somerfield’s rich cultural diversity, making Somerfield a vibrant place to live.

Now in its second consecutive year, Intrapac’s Senior Development Manager Max Shifman said entertainment will include Chinese dragon performers from the Hong De Lion and Dragon Dance Association. There will also be a spectacular firecracker display to coincide with celebrations.

“It’s more than just Chinese New Year, we are celebrating all the good things that come with living in multicultural Melbourne – embracing great food, important traditions and customs which can be passed onto the next generation,” said Max.

“As part of Chinese New Year festivities we are encouraging children to get into the spirit and dress in traditional Chinese dress. FREE red lucky pockets with chocolate coins will also be distributed to children on the day,” he said.

Chinese New Year celebrations will be hosted at Somerfield estate at 4.00pm at the barbeque area off Clarendon Drive near the lake.

Intrapac is committed to celebrating cultural diversity at Somerfield with number of key occasions earmarked this year, including International Children’s Day, Chinese New Year and the Diwali – Indian Festival of Light.
