What Keeps People at Intrapac? Suchet Malik on a Career Built on Relationships

Back to list

At Intrapac, long tenure has quietly become one of the business’s defining traits.

This year, Financial Controller Suchet Malik marks more than 20 years at Intrapac, a milestone that reflects not only his own contribution, but the culture and continuity that have shaped  Intrapac’s growth over the past four decades.

From his early days working alongside founder David Payes, when the business was still in its infancy, to helping oversee the finances of a national portfolio of residential communities, Suchet has been part of Intrapac’s journey every step of the way.

This year, eight employees celebrate more than 10 years of service, while a further nine have been with the business for more than seven years. In an industry defined by long project lifecycles, changing market conditions and complex stakeholder relationships, that level of retention provides an invaluable foundation.

A Culture That Retains People

Long tenure is rarely accidental. It reflects an environment where people feel trusted, challenged and connected to the work they do.

At Intrapac, that culture is built on collaboration, shared knowledge and a commitment to continuous improvement. Across finance, development, project management and sales, experienced team members play a critical role in supporting projects, mentoring colleagues and maintaining long-standing relationships with partners and consultants.

Having witnessed the company’s evolution firsthand, Suchet believes the people have always been one of its greatest strengths.

“Everyone here has something to offer,” he says. “There’s always something to learn from the people around you.”

That willingness to learn from one another has remained a constant as the business has grown.

Chief Financial Officer Alan Hayden has worked closely with Suchet for many years and credits him with bringing both technical expertise and deep institutional knowledge to the business.

“Suchet has a wealth of intellectual knowledge about our business, gained from exposure to all of our projects over the years. He is loyal, trustworthy and a valuable member of the Finance Team.”

Why Longevity Matters in Property Development

In property development, projects run for years, conditions shift, and relationships with joint venture partners, consultants, lawyers, and authorities develop their own history over time.

This is where experience has a compounding effect. The finance team sits at the centre of every active project, supporting decision-making, monitoring performance and helping maintain strong communication across the business and its partners. It requires an understanding not only of the numbers, but of how projects evolve from acquisition through to settlement.

After three decades with Intrapac, Suchet brings a level of perspective that can only be gained through experience. He understands the patterns, the pressure points and the relationships that have become an integral part of Intrapac’s success.

A Commitment to Improvement

One thread that has run through Intrapac’s culture from early on is a straightforward belief that every project, process and outcome should be better than the last.

For Suchet, that mindset continues to be a source of motivation. The focus has never been on maintaining the status quo, but on finding better ways of working, refining processes and supporting the broader business as it grows.

Over time, those incremental improvements create meaningful impact, helping strengthen both the finance function and the organisation as a whole.

Celebrating a Milestone

For Suchet, reaching 30 years has been less about reflecting on the past and more about contributing to Intrapac’s success. It is a by-product of staying genuinely engaged with the people and the work around him.

“The team, the relationships, the sense of what we’re building. It’s always given me reason to stay,” he says.

That sentiment is shared across the business and is a reminder that strong businesses are built by people who bring experience, commitment and consistency over the long term.

Suchet’s 30 years with the business stand as a testament to that culture and to the people who continue to shape it.
